One of the most unique pieces in the entire Renaissance canon of choral music, this motet sets a text delineating the mysterious interaction between the human and the divine, by one of the most original of Renaissance composers, Jacob Handl (Gallus). The mystery is reflected both in the imitative melodic chromaticism of each voice part, and chord progressions that did not become commonly used until the music of Richard Wagner hundreds of years later.
