A thrilling depiction of the glory of Deity whose magnificence is above the heavens, this piece has all the characteristics of the great mater of the 15th and 16th century, Josquin de Pres: imitations clearly reflecting the textural accents in every part, and an overall structure that won’t be heard again until the twentieth century: the psalm tone cantus is re-stating in ever increasing time values: 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, and 6/4.
