The Brazilian Pictures combines the folk rhythms and melodic gestures from various areas of Brazil with the harmonic and melodic vocabulary of modern jazz. The solo instrument often plays parts originally played by folk instruments, like the transverse wooden flute the “pifa”, while the piano often uses various percussion parts as source material.
